Hello! Welcome to the blog for Furrow Records, the new independant record company promoting new music, rooted in the tradition.
At the moment we're building up for our launch party on May 17th at The Sage, Gateshead. It's a wonderful venue and we're very lucky to have our launch there - we'd love you to join us. Performances will be from our three artists: Emily Portman, who's debut 'The Glamoury' has recieved astonishing reviews in the Observer, Froots, Rock n'Reel, and Netrhythms. She'll be performing tracks with harp player Rachel Newton (ofThe Shee) and fiddler and singer Lucy Farrell (currently on tour with the Unthanks). David Newey will be playing a set of solo material from new release 'Cities and Power'. This material features his unique guitar playing with lyrics mixing the personal and the political, and he'll play with Christi Andropolis who will then play her own fantastic set of songs, American blues and roots all with her inimitable twist of fiddle and voice. Her new album 'Rust and Holler' is an astonishing mix of these influences.
Please come and say hello - tickets are available from the Sage Website here: http://www.thesagegateshead.org/whats_on/event.aspx?e=&eid=634021061381718750_2&ts=634097223000000000&spid=17190&id=17191&df=634096512000000000&dt=634097375990000000&g=&p=&f=&ar=&keywords=&match=any
Booking in advance is highly advised as this will sell out quickly!
We'll try and keep you up to date with what's going on in the Furrow world through this blog, the website and the Facebook group. We may even tweet....Emily's album is currently available in high street record shops, Amazon, Play and on the Furrow website, as well as for download through Itunes, so please check it out!
In the meantime comments and questions would be welcome - related to Furrow or not! Hope you're all enjoying the sunshine...
